Jai Sri Krishna! Dear readers, in today's world, we are all going through some kind of struggle. Job pressure, family problems, financial worries, health concerns, restlessness in not finding the purpose of life or various problems in life – these are our daily companions. What should I do, how can I find peace? – These questions swirl in our minds. At such a moment, like Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, we too need a guide in the constant battle that is going on in our minds and hearts. And that guide is the Supreme Lord Krishna, who has shown the eternal light of our lives through the Bhagavad Gita.

This post is like a beacon, which will lead you to the ocean of nectar of the Bhagavad Gita. Today we will know what the Bhagavad Gita is, how deep its greatness is, why its importance is essential in today's era, and why it should be an integral part of our lives. Our goal is one - to illuminate the lives of all of us with the light of the teachings of the Supreme Lord Krishna.

1. What is the Bhagavad Gita?

The Bhagavad Gita is a priceless gem of Vedic literature. This book is part of the Bhishma Parva of the Mahabharata epic. About five thousand years ago, when the great hero Arjuna stood on the battlefield of Kurukshetra and was overwhelmed by responsibility, delusion, doubt and emotion, at that very moment, the Supreme Lord Krishna, as his beloved friend and charioteer, gave Arjuna the highest knowledge and invaluable advice in life, which is why we know it today as the "Bhagavad Gita" or "Srimad Bhagavad Gita".

Arjuna was the companion of Sri Krishna, so he was beyond all ignorance; But according to the will of God, he became temporarily disillusioned on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, so that he could ask Lord Krishna about the problems of life and through him Lord Krishna could explain the plan of life for the welfare of people in the future. Then, by living in that way, people will be able to succeed in fulfilling the purpose of human life.

In just 700 verses of the 18 chapters of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna has shown all the secrets of life, the solution to all problems and the path to ultimate peace. Therefore, this book is not just a religious book, but it shows the solution to all problems of life and the real purpose of life by freeing oneself from the miseries and sufferings of material nature. The Gita is open to everyone – regardless of religion, caste, race, gender or age. And it is not only for Hindus, but for the entire humanity. It is like a river of nectar, where everyone can quench the thirst of life.

gītāśāstram-idaṁ puṇyaṁ yaḥ paṭhet prayataḥ pumān ।
viṣṇoḥ padam-avāpnoti bhaya-śokādi-varjitaḥ ॥1॥

gītādhyāyana-śīlasya prāṇāyāma-parasya ca ।
naiva santi hi pāpāni pūrva-janma-kṛtāni ca ॥2॥

Translation: One who recites the Gita with devotion, all the sins of his previous births are destroyed by the grace of the Lord.

मलिने मोचनं पुंसां जलस्नानं दिने दिने ।

maline mocanaṁ puṁsāṁ jala-snānaṁ dine dine ।
sakṛd gītāmṛta-snānaṁ saṁsāra-mala-nāśanam ॥3॥

गीता सुगीता कर्तव्या किमन्यैः शास्त्रविस्तरैः ।
या स्वयं पद्मनाभस्य मुखपद्माद् विनिःसृता ॥४॥

gītā su-gītā kartavyā kim-anyaiḥ śāstra-vistaraiḥ ।
yā svayaṁ padma-nābhasya mukha-padmād viniḥsṛtā ॥4॥

sarvopaniṣado gāvo dogdhā gopāla-nandanaḥ ।
pārtho vatsaḥ sudhīr-bhoktā dugdhaṁ gītāmṛtaṁ mahat ॥6॥

एको देवो देवकीपुत्र एव ।

कर्माप्येकं तस्य देवस्य सेवा ॥७॥

ekaṁ śāstraṁ devakī-putra-gītam
eko devo devakī-putra eva ।
eko mantras-tasya nāmāni yāni
karmāpy-ekaṁ tasya devasya sevā ॥7॥
