M.G. Ramachandran (MGR)

    

Late legendary actor and statesman M. G. Ramachandran was born on 17 January 1917. After achieving immense popularity in cinema, he served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for several years. Known for his welfare-oriented governance and concern for the poor, he earned deep public respect. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna.

Legendary actress Suchitra Sen passed away on 17 January 2014. Her performances elevated Bengali and Hindi cinema to new artistic heights. Veteran political leader Jyoti Basu passed away on 17 January 2010. He served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal for 23 consecutive years, making him one of the longest-serving chief ministers in India. His government played a significant role in land reforms and the strengthening of the Panchayati Raj system.
