3 February 2026 - Festivals, Special Day, Public and Bank Holiday Updates in India.

1. Festivals & Observances

Today, 3 February 2026, there is no major nationwide festival or officially declared observance across India as per standard public calendars. However, according to the traditional Hindu lunisolar calendar, today corresponds to Phalguna Krishna Dvitiya. This day is considered spiritually auspicious for devotional practices, meditation, and worship, especially for those who follow the path of inner reflection and remembrance of the Supreme Lord.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna teaches that every moment is an opportunity to connect with the divine. Even on days without major festivals, sincere devotees can engage in japa, kirtan, and reading of sacred scriptures. True spiritual progress does not depend on grand celebrations alone but on the consistent practice of devotion and self-awareness in daily life.

2. Special Day

While today is not marked by any national celebration, India remembers distinguished personalities on their birth and death anniversaries. Their contributions continue to inspire and guide us.

Birth Anniversary

Raghuram Rajan

Renowned economist Raghuram Govind Rajan was born on 3 February 1963 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He served as the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2013 to 2016, during which time he worked to control inflation, stabilize the Indian rupee, and strengthen the banking sector. Before his tenure at RBI, he was the Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund from 2003 to 2006, becoming the youngest person to hold that position at age 40. He gained international recognition for warning about risks in the financial system at the 2005 Jackson Hole conference, three years before the 2008 global financial crisis. His insights, initially dismissed by some, proved remarkably accurate. He received the inaugural Fischer Black Prize in 2003 and his book Fault Lines won the Financial Times/Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year award in 2010. Currently, he is a Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His dedication to truth and foresight reminds us that true knowledge, as Krishna teaches, illuminates the path for all.

Death Anniversary

C. N. Annadurai

Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai, affectionately known as Anna (Elder Brother), passed away on 3 February 1969. He was the founder of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and served as the last Chief Minister of Madras State and the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after the state was renamed on 14 January 1969. Born on 15 September 1909 in Kanchipuram, he was a gifted orator, writer, and screenwriter who used his talents to advocate for social justice, regional autonomy, and linguistic rights. During his tenure as Chief Minister from 1967 to 1969, he implemented several progressive policies including legalizing self-respect marriages, introducing subsidized rice at one rupee per kilogram, and promoting inter-caste marriages. He was a strong voice against the imposition of Hindi and championed the cause of Tamil language and culture. His funeral holds the Guinness World Record for the highest number of attendees, with an estimated 15 million people paying their respects. His life exemplifies how leadership rooted in service and compassion can transform society and earn genuine respect from people.
